- What to send us
Before anything else
- Type MNVERSION in AutoCAD and note what it prints.
- Read the whole message on the command line. Most messages say what was not changed and what to do next.
- If a message ends with Details: and a file path, that file explains what happened. Keep it for us.
Installing
Windows will not run Install.cmd
Windows is cautious with files that came from the internet or email and are not signed.
- If you see Windows protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway.
- If nothing happens, right-click the Setup zip, choose Properties, tick Unblock, choose OK, then extract it again and run Install.cmd from the new folder.
- If your company blocks scripts altogether, ask IT to run Install.cmd for you once. It installs for the signed-in Windows user and needs no administrator rights.
“AutoCAD is running. Close every AutoCAD window”
The plug-in files cannot be replaced while AutoCAD has them open. Nothing was changed.
- Save your work and close every AutoCAD window.
- If the message stays, open Task Manager and end any remaining acad.exe (only after saving).
- Run Install.cmd again.
“SHA-256 verification failed” or “The Setup package is missing …”
The package was damaged or incomplete when it was copied or downloaded. The installer refused it, and nothing was installed.
- Delete the extracted folder and the zip.
- Copy or download the Setup zip again, extract it, and run Install.cmd.
- Never edit, rename or remove files inside the Setup folder.
“… has no release.json; it is not a Setup package”
The installer was started from inside the zip, or from a folder that is not the extracted Setup package.
- Right-click the Setup zip and choose Extract All.
- Open the extracted folder and double-click Install.cmd there.
“CMNUpdater was not installed” warning
The plug-in is installed and works. Only automatic updates are affected.
- Run Install.cmd again from the same Setup folder.
- If the warning repeats, send us the whole installer window text (see “What to send us”).
CMN Translator Manager
“Save your work and close AutoCAD before installing.”
The Manager will not replace plug-in files while AutoCAD has them open. Nothing was changed.
- Save your work and close every AutoCAD window.
- If the message stays, open Task Manager and end any remaining acad.exe (only after saving).
- Click Install bundled version again.
“Bundled package checksum mismatch” or “Unexpected path in the setup package”
The EXE was damaged or altered when it was copied or downloaded. Nothing was installed.
- Delete that CMNSetup.exe.
- Get a fresh copy and run it again. Do not rename or edit it.
“This developer build has no installer payload”
This EXE was built without a package inside, so it cannot install. Updates and glossary tools still work.
- Ask us for the packaged Setup EXE.
“GitHub update check/download failed”
There is no internet, the network blocks GitHub, the release repository is private and no read-only token is set up on this PC, or GitHub is limiting requests (HTTP 403). The installed version was not changed.
- Check the network or VPN connection, then click Check for updates again.
- On HTTP 403, wait an hour and try again.
- If your updates come from a network share, click Choose update source… and pick the release.json IT gave you.
- For a private repository, ask IT to set up the read-only token. Signing in to GitHub in a browser does not count.
- Install bundled version needs no internet and still works.
“… is staged and installs after AutoCAD closes” or “Installation is pending”
The update is downloaded and checked. It waits because AutoCAD has the plug-in files open.
- Save your work and close every AutoCAD window.
- Open the Manager and click Finish pending install.
- Start AutoCAD and type MNVERSION to confirm the new version.
“The separate command-line updater could not be replaced”
The plug-in is installed and works. Only the updater behind MNUPDATE and MNROLLBACK stayed on its older copy, usually because it was busy finishing an update.
- Wait a minute, close the Manager, and run CMNSetup.exe again.
- If the message mentions file permissions, contact us with a screenshot of the Manager window.
“An unrelated desktop shortcut already uses the name CMN Translator Manager”
Another shortcut on the desktop has the same name, and the Manager will not overwrite it.
- Rename or delete that shortcut.
- Click Create desktop shortcut.
“The glossary contains lost characters (?? or replacement symbols)”
The file was saved in a format that cannot hold Cyrillic or Chinese. Nothing was imported.
- Open the original workbook, not the damaged file.
- Save it as XLSX, or with File → Save As → CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited).
- Click Import glossary… again.
“No glossary rows found” or “This is already your active company glossary”
The first message means the file has no mongolian column, or no chinese or english column. The second means you picked the company glossary itself. Nothing was imported in either case.
- Check the column headings in the file you want to add, then import again.
- Pick the project term list you want to add, not the active company glossary.
The import reports “Conflicts not imported”
Those rows give a different Mongolian word for a term the company glossary has already approved. They were left out; everything else was imported, after a backup.
- Read the listed rows and decide, row by row, which word is correct.
- If the new word is correct, ask the glossary owner to change the company row, then import again.
Export fails: “No company glossary exists yet” or the file already exists
There is nothing to export until a glossary has been imported or merged; and an export never overwrites a file.
- For the first message, import a glossary first.
- Otherwise, export again with a new file name.
“Please wait for the current operation to finish.”
A download, install or import is still running, and stopping it halfway is not allowed.
- Wait until the result appears in the window, then close it.
Loading in AutoCAD
“Unknown command” for MNTRANSLATE, MNVERSION or any MN command
The plug-in did not load: the security prompt was answered with Do Not Load, AutoCAD was already open during installation, or the installation did not finish.
- Close AutoCAD completely and start it again. When the security prompt appears, choose Always Load.
- Type MNVERSION. If it works, you are done.
- If there is no prompt and the command is still unknown, open the CMN Translator Manager and click Install bundled version (or run Install.cmd again), then restart AutoCAD.
- Your AutoCAD must be version 2023 or newer.
I chose Do Not Load by mistake
AutoCAD only remembers the choice for this session.
- Close AutoCAD and start it again. The prompt comes back; choose Always Load.
Translating a drawing
“The drawing has unsaved changes. Save it first”
The tool reads the saved file from disk, so unsaved edits would be missed.
- Save the drawing (QSAVE) and run the command again.
“Save the drawing to a file first”
A new drawing that has never been saved has no file for the tool to read.
- Use SAVEAS to save it in a project folder, then run the command again.
“Cannot start translation; … is already running”
Only one translation, review or merge runs on a drawing at a time.
- Type MNSTATUS to see what is running and how far it has got.
- Wait for it, or type MNCANCEL to stop it safely. A cancelled job changes no drawing.
Translation takes very long, or says it timed out
Very large drawings, or AI commands waiting on the provider. A timed-out run changes no drawing.
- Type MNSTATUS to check it is still moving.
- For a very large drawing, translate part of it first with MNTRANSLATESEL.
- If it times out repeatedly, contact us with the drawing name and the log file.
Codes such as \f宋体|b0|i0|c204|p7; appear inside the Mongolian text
Older versions sometimes wrote a font code into the text itself instead of hiding it. Current versions do not.
- Type MNVERSION. If a newer version is available, run MNUPDATE and close AutoCAD so it installs.
- Open the original drawing and run MNTRANSLATE again. This creates a clean new _MN copy.
- Do not try to fix the codes by hand in the old copy.
Mongolian shows as ???, boxes or wrong letters
The text uses a Chinese font (often an SHX font) that has no Cyrillic letters.
- Open the translated _MN copy and type MNFORMAT, then choose All.
- Text moves to layer CMN_MONGOLIAN_TEXT and style CMN_MONGOLIAN (Arial) without moving or resizing.
- If letters are still wrong, check that the Arial font is installed in Windows.
Mongolian text is too long and runs over lines or borders
Mongolian is usually longer than the Chinese it replaces. Nothing measures the space for you.
- Run MNREVIEW; it lists text that may be too long for its space.
- Shorten the wording in the _MN copy, or adjust the width of that text object.
- If a standard term is always too long, ask for a shorter approved form in the glossary.
A word is translated wrongly on every drawing
The wrong translation is approved in a glossary, so it is applied everywhere.
- Tell the glossary owner which Chinese term, the wrong Mongolian and the correct Mongolian.
- The fix is made once, in the company glossary. A company word always wins over the base glossary.
- Then open the original drawing and run MNTRANSLATE again.
A term is in the glossary but is not used
Only rows with status approved are used. Rows marked needs_review or needs_chinese are waiting for a person, and a spaced label such as 图 号 must match exactly.
- Type MNGLOSSARYSTATUS to see which glossary file is in use.
- Ask the glossary owner to check the row's status and spacing, and to approve it if it is correct.
Chinese text is left in the translated copy
Neither glossary knows that text, and it was not filled in the worksheet.
- Open <drawing>-to-translate.csv, fill the Mongolian column, save as CSV.
- Type MNMERGE and pick the CSV, then MNTRANSLATE again.
- Or use MNTRANSLATEAI for AI drafts, where your project allows it.
No output files appear, or “access denied”
The drawing's folder is read-only (often a network share), or a previous CSV is still open in Excel.
- Close the CSV in Excel and run the command again.
- If the drawing is on a share you cannot write to, copy it to a local project folder and translate the copy.
Worksheets and glossaries
MNMERGE refuses the CSV
A column was deleted, renamed or moved, or the file was saved as an Excel workbook.
- Keep every column exactly as it came. Fill only Mongolian (FILL IN) and Approved? (y).
- Save with File → Save As → CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited).
- If the file is damaged, run MNTRANSLATE again to get a fresh worksheet and copy your answers across.
Mongolian letters turn into ? or strange symbols after saving in Excel
The CSV was saved in a format that cannot hold Cyrillic.
- Save again with CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited), not plain CSV (Comma delimited).
“The file is being used by another process” during merge or import
The company glossary is open in Excel, which locks it.
- Close the glossary in Excel, then run the command again.
Wrong words were merged, and I want to undo it
Every change to the company glossary is preceded by a backup; the last 50 are kept.
- Close AutoCAD.
- Contact us with the drawing name and the approximate time of the merge. We restore the right backup for you.
- Until then, do not merge or import anything else, and do not try to replace program files yourself.
MNGLOSSARYIMPORT reports conflicts
The workbook gives a different Mongolian word for a term the company glossary has already approved. Those rows were not imported; everything else was.
- Read the listed rows. Decide per row which word is correct.
- If the new word is correct, ask the glossary owner to change the company row, then import again.
The base glossary changed and translations got worse
A newer base glossary was installed with MNGLOSSARYUPDATE.
- Type MNGLOSSARYROLLBACK to return to the previous base glossary. The company glossary is not affected.
- Tell us which terms changed, so the next base release can be corrected.
AI drafts
“The AI was asked for but is unavailable”
No AI provider is configured on this computer, there is no internet, or the network blocks the provider.
- MNTRANSLATE still works fully offline; use it and fill the worksheet by hand.
- Ask us to configure the AI provider on this computer if your project allows sending text to it.
“429 … slow down” or a batch failed
The provider limits how fast it accepts requests. Batches that already succeeded are kept.
- Wait a few minutes and run the same command again. Only what is still missing is sent.
Updates and versions
MNVERSION says “Updater: not installed”
This computer was installed before the updater existed, or the updater step failed.
- Close AutoCAD and run Install.cmd from the latest Setup package. Glossaries and settings are kept.
MNUPDATE says “Unable to check for updates”
The release location could not be reached: no internet, the file share is unavailable, or access was refused. The current installation has not been changed.
- Check the network or VPN connection and try again later.
- If it keeps failing, install the latest Setup package with Install.cmd and tell us the message shown.
“Installation is pending. Close AutoCAD to complete the update”
The update is downloaded and verified. It waits for AutoCAD to close, because files in use cannot be replaced.
- Save your work and close every AutoCAD window. The update installs within a few seconds.
- Start AutoCAD and type MNVERSION to confirm the new version.
- If MNVERSION still shows Pending, close AutoCAD, open the CMN Translator Manager and click Finish pending install.
A new version misbehaves
The last three versions are kept for exactly this.
- Type MNROLLBACK, choose the previous version, and close AutoCAD. It installs as soon as AutoCAD closes.
- Tell us what went wrong, so it can be fixed in the next release.
Where is the downloaded update?
Updates are kept where you can find them.
- Open Downloads\CmnCadTranslator\Updates, or type MNHELP and choose Folder. The last three packages are kept.
Nothing works any more
Reinstalling is safe: it keeps glossaries, settings and drawings.
- Close AutoCAD.
- Run Install.cmd from the latest Setup package.
- Start AutoCAD, choose Always Load if asked, and type MNVERSION.
- If that does not help, contact us (see below).
Where to find things
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Guides and downloaded updates | Downloads\CmnCadTranslator (type MNHELP, then Folder) |
| The Details: file | The command line prints its full name when something goes wrong. Send that file as it is. |
| CMN Translator Manager | Desktop shortcut CMN Translator Manager. |
| A copy of the company glossary | Export glossary… in the CMN Translator Manager. |
What to send us
- The text MNVERSION prints (a screenshot is fine).
- The command you ran and the drawing name.
- A screenshot of the message or the problem on the sheet.
- The Details: log file, and for updates a screenshot of the CMN Translator Manager window.
- Do not send the drawing itself unless we ask for it and your project allows it.
What is always true
- Your original drawing is never modified. Translations are written to a separate _MN copy.
- The company glossary is backed up before every change and is never replaced by an update.
- An update never opens or changes a drawing, and a failed update leaves the previous version working.
- Reinstalling with Install.cmd keeps glossaries, settings and drawings.
- A glossary import in the Manager is preceded by a backup and never replaces approved wording.
